Itinerary

Depart from UK on your flight to Sri Lanka.

Upon arrive in Colombo Airport, meet & greet by our representative at Bandaranaike International Airport and proceed to Negombo. Afternoon leisure and enjoy the pool & Beach in Negombo.

Overnight stay at Jetwing Blue 5*, Negombo.

After breakfast drive to Kandy. En route visit the popular Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage - App. 55 miles from Colombo, off the Colombo - Kandy road is Pinnawela, where an orphanage was started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the wounded elephants. The number of elephants has increased to more than 65 now; including Baby Elephants brought from various parts, as well as the 23 babies born, as a result of the captive breeding programme. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0930-1000 hrs and 1330-1400 hrs and the bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river close by. Continue to drive Kandy.

Overnight stay at Cinnamon Citadel 4*, Kandy.

After breakfast commence sightseeing including the Upper Lake Drive, Market Square Arts & Crafts Centre and Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Thereafter visit the famous Temple of the Tooth and later afternoon visit the Royal Botanical Gardens ablaze with colourful exotic plants (Optional).

Overnight stay at Cinnamon Citadel 4*, Kandy.

After breakfast proceed to Dambulla. En route visit an spice garden and experience the Sri Lankan spices and nature remedies. There after proceed to Dambulla and visit Dambulla rock cave temple, where some of the finest preserved ancient frescoes can be found. Dambulla is a World Heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples.

In the morning, visit the rock fortress of Sigiriya. A climb to the top (only for the energetic!) will reveal a spectacular view. The gallery of frescoes half way up is a definite highlight.

After breakfast proceed to Anuradhapura is the most celebrated of Sri Lanka’s ancient ruined cities. The city’s greatest treasures are its dagabas constructed of small sun-dried bricks and hemispherical in shape. The city’s most renowned relic is the sacred Bo-Tree which is said to have grown from a branch of the tree under which the Buddha gained enlightenment. It was planted 2250 years ago and is the oldest historic tree in the world.

Anuradhapura - the capital of Sri Lanka from the 05th Century B.C. to the end of the 10th Century A.D. was the most celebrated of Sri Lanka’s ancient ruined cities. The city’s greatest treasures are its dagobas constructed of bricks and hemispherical in shape. The most notable of these dagobas are the Ruvanveliseya which dates back to the 2nd Century B.C. and is 300 feet in diameter, the Jetawanarama is 370 feet and the Thuparama Dagoba enshrines the collarbone of the Buddha. The city’s most renowned relic is the sacred Bo Tree, which is said to have grown from a branch of the tree under which the Buddha gained Enlightenment. It was planted 2250 years ago and is the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world.

Leave to Willpathu National Park and experience the 4 Weel Jeep Safari. Wilpattu National Park – is 508 square miles (131.694 hectares) in extent and was declared as a National Park in 1938.

The special feature in this Park is the large number of Villus (lakes) where you can watch wild life and many species of birds. Leopards were the most famous animal in this Park and are famous for its Wild Elephant herds. Spotted Deer, Sambhur, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Wild Buffalo, sloth Bear, Mongoose, Crocodile and Peacocks are also found here.

Breakfast at the hotel and levae to Jaffna,visit Point Pedro being the northern most point of Sri Lanka. Visit the Jaffna town which is the 12th largest city, Jaffna Fort, NallurKandaswamy Temple. Historically, Jaffna has been a contested city. It was made into a colonial port town during the Portuguese occupation of the Jaffna peninsula in 1619. It changed hands to the Dutch colonialists, who lost it to the British in 1796. Overnight stay in Jetwing Jaffna 4*, Jaffna.

visitKayts, the largest island in the Jaffna Peninsula. The Portuguese fort in the island has been built with four circular bastions, with a shape of a horseshoe. This was also called Urundai Fort. The island was taken over by the Dutch in the 1600's. Delft Island is a 1 hour 20 min boat ride where the walls are made from real coral, Wild horses run freely, Dutch fort and the water being crystal clear.

Full day activities and travel around Jaffna and visit ancient Hindu Temples. Jaffna – is 246 miles from Colombo and can reach by Air or Road. The Rail connection is now only up to Vavuniya. The Jaffna peninsula has an area of 380 square miles. Jaffna was important for both Portuguese and Dutch. Jaffna Fort was completed in 1632 and it covers 55acres in extent. The Dutch Church inside the Fort dates to 1706.

There are ruins of Portuguese Churches at Myliddi and Chankanai and a ruined Dutch Church at Atchuveli. The Dutch Fort Hammenhiel is at the entrance to the Kayts Harbour and is delightful.

Jaffna is full of Hindu Kovils. The Nallur Kandasamy Kovil and Vallipuram Kovil at Point Pedro are two of the important Kovils.

The Buddhist Vihara at Nagadeepa (Nainativu ) Island is a place sanctified by the visit of the Buddha and the dagoba is an old one. The large number of dagobas in the Kantharodai site dates from 2nd to 10th Centuries A.D.

At Keeramalai is a freshwater bathing pond on the beach and is said to possess therapeutic properties.

Today you will be taken to the domestic airport in time for your flight back down to Colombo from Jaffna. On arrival in Colombo you will be taken to your chosen beach hotel for your last 3 nights in Sri Lanka.
